FAQ: Eyeliner...

Hey Everyone!!

So I have been getting a lot of questions on eyeliner; how it is applied, type of liner and brand...so I thought I'd share some tips and tricks of how I apply eyeliner. 

There are many different types of liner such as pencil, kohl, gel, marker and liquid liners. They have many different applicators as well, including brushes, felt tip and brush tips.

I personally like to use all these different types of liners, depending on the look I want to create. I use liquid liners when I want a strong, definitive "cat eye" look and use pencils when I want a softer, day look. I always use kohl pencils or gel liners on my waterline.

My personal favorite liner right now is L'Oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense felt tip liquid eyeliner...I have been using it for about 4-5 months now and really enjoy using it. I would prefer something with a slimmer tip to get even more precise lines but until I find something else, for now, it works well.

 

To understand what look will look best on yourself, you have to understand what type of eye shape you have. (I probably cover this in a another post). I have almond shaped eyes and the best liner for me is winged/cat eye liner. This helps to elongate the eye and also give it a lifted look. 

Personally, I believe that there are two types of winged liner; one where you follow the natural shape and line of your lid/lash line. The other,  where you follow the shape of your lower lash line...this sounds a bit confusing right now, but I will explain as I go along with the pictures below as I try to explain step-by-step on how to apply eyeliner.

First Step:

The first step in applying liner is to either look down into a hand held mirror, or look straight into the mirror on your wall and tilt your head back as if you were to apply mascara. This gives you more eyelid space to work with and helps you to see exactly where you would like to place the liner. 

Second Step:

Create a small line starting in the middle of your lid moving outward toward the outer corner of the eye (towards the ear).

Third Step:

Then, you want to move slowly along the lash line until you reach the outer most corner of the eye, where the lashes stop growing. Once you have completed that line, you then want to create a very small wing/point to the end of the liner.

Fourth Step:

Now you want to complete the liner by lining the inner most corner of the eye (towards your nose). This step is a bit tricky as you may feel as though you may poke yourself in the eye with the wand...which has actually happened to me before and its not pretty!!....lol...so just take your time and create small strokes. The trick is to create very small lines and connect them as you go along, as opposed to creating one long line...this is when you tend to get uneven and shaky.

You should now be complete in creating your slightly winged liner. This is something I would wear on a daily basis as it isn't too dramatic for me.

Now to create a more dramatic "cat eye" shape.....

First Step:

Repeat the "First Step and Second Step" above.

 Second Step:

Create a small line starting from the end of your lash line towards the end of your brow. Follow the natural shape of your lower lash line as a guide. You can also use a piece of tape to help you create the perfect angle and shape.

Third Step:

Then you want to create a line connecting the line from the lid/lash line to the top of the line in the outer most corner, creating a triangle shape.

 Fourth Step:

Fill in the triangle shape and complete the "Fourth Step" above. 

This is the difference between the two liner styles. You can see that the liner of the left is definitely less dramatic than that on the right. The liner on the right also creates a lifted look to the eye as opposed to the liner on the left.

Creating that perfect liner/wing takes practice and patience, so if you don't get it right the first time, don't give up, you will eventually be able to perfect it!

Happy New Year 2012!!!

Hi Everyone!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 

I know this post is super late but I just wanted to wish you all a wonderful year ahead. I honestly can't believe the year has already come to an end and the new year has already begun...

For most, this is the time where you try to make plans for the next few months to pursue a dream or finally get things accomplished, or for some it just simply means a new beginning and a fresh start. This can be a very overwhelming time for some, but you just have to remember to take things one step at a time. Everything happens with time and great things comes to those who wait - as they say.... After the Christmas rush, this is definitely the perfect time to take some time to relax and get rejuvenated  for the year ahead.

I hardly ever make New Years resolutions, but this year seems to be different....there are so many things that I would like to personally accomplish, big and small, alongside family goals. I just cant wait to see what this year has in store for us....*fingers crossed* :p

I just hope that this year brings all of you happiness, peace, love, prosperity and all that you desire. 

Believe in yourself and you can make anything happen!

Update!! :)

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick update...I went to New York City last week!!  I was so excited...It's been about six or seven years since I was there last and I absolutely loved it! This time, I planned to do a lot more sight seeing, but I spend the majority of my time spent with family, which was absolutely amazing!!

I hoped to visit the Inglot and OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) stores, but I just ran out of time. I wanted to do a haul and review of the products I would have purchased upon my return, but I didn't pick up anything. There are so many products that are unavailable here in Canada, so the next time I go to NYC (hopefully soon), I will be doing a lot of exploring to see what goodies I can get my hands on!

Also...I do apologize, I know I have been dragging out this contest for a couple months now. I have been so busy with other things and I just haven't had the time to sit down and get everything organized. But I have ordered a few things for prizes and will have the contest up and running in a couple weeks.

1 Year Anniversary + Contest!!

Hello all my lovely Divine Beauties!!

I am so super excited to say that July 1, 2011 has officially marked my 1 year anniversary of doing makeup professionally!!

It has really been an amazing adventure thus far! I've really learned a lot and of course, there is much more to learn...I cant wait to see what the future has to offer :)

How to Depot NYX Jumbo Pencils...

Hey Everyone!!

So I got this great little tip while browsing through Youtube one night and just thought I had to do depot my NYX Jumbo Pencils!

It really makes it much easier to use and there is no sharpening! Depotting also saves the product that you would normally loose when sharpening the pencils.

So here are a few steps to show you how to depot these jumbo pencils!

What you will need:

• NYX Jumbo Pencil - in any colour you desire
• Container with cover/lid
• Scissors/Pliers/Tweezers - something to hold the jumbo pencil
• Blow dryer
• Labels - optional

Make sure you have the containers that you'd like to transfer the product to. I used these plastic stackable containers I purchased at Wal-Mart (which also comes with a carrying case for convenience). But you can use individual or glass containers, which ever you prefer.



I also created labels for my containers, just so I can remember the name of the colour so I can buy it again in the future. (sorry for the horrible nails! lol)

 Then you want to take your pencils and remove the end cap to expose the product, you can do this using the scissors or pliers to twist and pull it off. Also remove the clear cover.

Now place the container in a cup or something a little bigger to hold it in place. Hold the pencil with your scissors and hold it over the container while directing the heat of your blow dryer on to the pencil. (the pencil will get too hot for you to hold with your fingers) Also, don't hold the heat too long over your container as the high heat could melt or deform your plastic container.

Place the heat directly on the pencil for about a minute or two, just to warm it up. It will start to melt and fall into the container. Make sure to place the heat on the sides of the pencil as well, this will allow the product to flow right through the pencils shell.

After, you will see that there is no more product in the pencils shell!

If you have more, then go ahead and repeat the process for the rest of your pencils! :)

Here are the rest of mine....

After, let them set and cool down. Then once cooled you can stack them up and place it in your carrying case!

And now your done! :)

Note: Using heat has not changed the consistency or colour of the product, its still creamy and works great!

 

*Do not attempt this with NYX eye or lip pencils as the consistency of these pencils do not allow for it to removed using this method. *

NYX Jumbo Pencil Review!!

Hey Everyone!

So this review is long overdue!! I've been talking about NYX jumbo pencils for a while now and now your finally going to find out why I love them soo much! :)

So, I purchased my pencils on eBay where I purchased 10 pencils for about $30, which is about $3/pencil. It was a bit difficult trying to find a pharmacy/outlet store here in the GTA that sell them. But after some research and a helpful tip from a friend, I finally did find a store! The store is in the Breamlea City Centre in Brampton, its on the upper level of the mall and its called Designer Cosmetics. The pencils retail for about $3.99 there. They also sell other NYX products like the single shadows, glitter liners, lipsticks etc. but I will do a review on those products later! :)

This is what the Jumbo Pencils look like, and this colour in particular 'MILK' is my favourite!

They come in a variety of colours and all work wonderfully...

I use these pencils more as a base rather than a cream eyeshadow because, if its not set with a shadow or powder they tend to crease...so it definitely makes a great base!

Its a very creamy product therefore it glides on very smoothly on the skin/lids.

Also, a little goes a long way, so don't apply too much as this can cause creasing as well.

It definitely holds the colours in place and makes them really pop!

I love to used this as a base under my 120 Palette shadows, it makes the colours that much more gorgeous! :)

I also use these pencils to create other designs on my face, depending on the look I want to create, such as Halloween or more avante garde looks.

The NYX White Eyeshadow Base is similar to 'Milk' but its a bit more sticky which allows the shadows to adhere to the base and lid a little more than the pencil, and theres not sharpening!

As for maintaining and sharpening these Jumbo Pencils, it can definitely be a task and a bit of a pain! But there are definitely sharpeners that can sharpen these pencils. I actually have the NYX dual sharpener. It works well, but the pencil still tends to get stuck or break off into the sharpener, which is why I like to depot my pencils!

These pencils are definitely a great alternative to those more pricey eyeshadow bases such as Urban Decay Primer Potion or MAC Paint Pots. I personally like how well they allow you to blend the colours without loosing its pigmentation or brightness.

10 Color Camouflage and Concealer Palette Review...

 Hey Everyone!!

So here is my review for the 10 Colour Camouflage and Concealer Palette!

Below is a picture of what the product looks like and the colours that are available with this particular palette.

The colours definitely vary from very pale white with pink undertones to dark chocolate with yellow undertones, which makes this palette perfect when creating different looks or using it with clients with varying skin tones.

Here is a picture of some colours I swatched (sorry, it isn't the best quality picture!)

The first colours is the second colour in the top row.

The second colour is the fourth colour in the top row.

The third colour is the third colour in the bottom row,

and the last colour is the last colour in the bottom row.

Consistency/Texture:

The consistency is very creamy and blends really well. It can be applied with a brush or with your fingers. I like to take some of the product out of the palette with my spatula tool and place it on the back of my hand. Then I take a synthetic concealer brush and apply it where needed. I then take my fingers and blend it in, just to warm up the product and create a smooth finish. I always use a translucent loose powder to set this product, therefore the colour is not distorted and it doesn't look too cakey.

Use:

This palette is also great for highlighting and contouring. I personally use the second colour in the swatch to conceal my dark circles, and highlight. I also use the last colour in the swatch to contour. All you need is a little bit, so don't over apply this product as it can then turn into a very cakey look, which isn't very attractive...

With the variety of shades that this palette provides, you can definitely create your own custom shade by mixing and experimenting with the colours.

I have also used the lighter shades of this palette to create a lot of my Halloween looks, such as a vampire/goth. There are endless possibilities for this palette, you just have to use your imagination!

I personally bought my palette on eBay, the prices vary for every seller, but seems to stay within the $10-$18 US including shipping range. The shipping time is about 3-4 weeks to Canada as it is coming from Hong Kong. This palette can also be found on other beauty/cosmetic sites, but I think it is the exact same thing.

My Daily Skin Care Routine!!

Hey Everyone!!

A lot of you have asked me what my daily skin care routine is....so here it is! Its not secret, you just need to know what products to use for your skin type!

First of all, you need to figure out what type of skin you have. Is your skin oily, dry, sensitive, normal etc. 

Finding your skin type is the most common mistake when trying to treat or cleanse your face.

You have normal skin if:

• Your skin still looks fresh and clean by midday
• Your skin looks clear and is even in colour
• Your skin is soft and supple to the touch
• Your skin is neither greasy nor tight

You have dry skin if:

• Your skin looks old, is pale in color
• Your skin feels flaky and rough
• Your skin feels tight after washing
• Flaky patches starts to appear by midday

You have oil skin if:

• Your skin will appear shiny by midday
• You experience frequent outbreaks of acne and pimples
• Your skin has a shiny complexion most of the time

You have combination skin if:

• Your skin has oiliness in the T-zone and dryness on the cheeks
• Your skin feels dry in some areas and smooth in others
• You have occasional acne outbreaks in the oily areas

You have sensitive skin if:

• Your skin feels dry and itchy in some places after cleansing
•  Flaky patches and some redness may appear by midday
• Your skin will sting and itch after applying facial toner

Personally, I have sensitive skin and I find the Neutrogena works best for my skin. I haven't had any issues with these products thus far...

There are three important steps when cleansing your face; Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize. This is very important to keep the moisture and equilibrium of your skin.

 I love this cleanser! It is not a foam (as the name might perceive), but has a pearly, thick consistency. It does not remove the moisture from my face at all. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. It also removes waterproof makeup!

Firstly, you want to splash your face with some warm water. This product wont spread evenly and effortlessly without the moisture from the water on your face. All you need is one pump to gently wash your face. Using the tips of your fingers, move them in a circular motion all over your face and don't forget your neck!. Then gently remove the cleanser with water. Pat dry your face, try not to tug on your face with a rough towel as you may irritate the skin. 

After you have cleansed your face, the next step is toner! This product is alcohol-free so those with sensitive skin, like mine, it does not burn or itch after applying this product. Toner also helps remove excess dirt and oil and refine pores.

You can apply this product with a cotton ball, or cotton pad. Gently swab the toner all over your face.

After you tone your face, apply your moisturizer. This moisturizer is for sensitive skin, but they have specialized formulas for specified skin types such as this one.

This moisturizer is really nice. You only need a small amount, one pump, which goes a long way. Again, gently rub this into your face and neck.

Now you are done! :)

*Remember to cleanse your face twice a day, and never go to sleep with your makeup on!*

Everyday 'Drug Store' Makeup

Hey Everyone!


Here are a few products that I just adore from my local drug store (Shoppers/Wal-Mart etc.) that are quite inexpensive and work well with most skin tones and types....This is what I use on a regular/daily basis for my day/work makeup. You dont always need very expensive, high-end makeup to look glamourous! :p

This Revlon foundation is just great! It matches my skin tone perfectly and it's not too heavy or thick. It blends well and doesn't leave a 'cakey' or 'made up' look. Its just the right consistency to give coverage while allowing your natural skin to shine through. I find it applies best when used with a foundation brush (synthetic). Apply this foundation on parts of the face and blend rather than all over the face, all at once because it does tend to dry a bit quickly. The bottle does not contain a pump, therefore the product can either be poured on the back of your hand or on a clean palette and then applied with your brush. (Never dip your foundation brush into the bottle as it can contaminate your foundation)

After putting on my foundation I tend to set it with a loose powder rather than a pressed powder. This product by CoverGirl is very nice. It just adds another dimension to your foundation as it does have a bit of shimmer, giving you a sun kissed glow. I apply this product with a large foundation brush as opposed to the brush provided. Its packaging is a bit tricky as it twists and unscrews from the bottom. Transferring the powder from the container to the lid, on to the brush can be a bit messy!. 

I add a touch of blush to the apples of my cheeks to give the face a warmer look. This blush is very easy to apply with a blush brush and blends very well. They come in a matte or slight shimmer shade depending on the look you are going for.

I love this trio eyeshadow! Its great for quick on the go application, as it comes in a neat, compact, little package. The three colours work well for the lid, highlight and crease for more interest and contrast in a day look. I just use one brush for the whole eye as these shadows do not stain your brushes. The colours are on the shimmer side, making blending a bit easier.

I also use a black kohl eyeliner to add more definition to my eyes. I line the top and lower lash line with this very dark eyeliner. Its application is very smooth as its very soft. Its very easy on the eyes as you do not need to go over on the waterline multiple times for its true colour.

This CoverGirl mascara is my favorite drug store mascara! I just love the drama and length it adds to my lashes! :) It gives me great definition and makes my lashes look more full. The large brush helps with a faster application as I have big eyes, not so sure it would work well with those who have smaller eyes, but i still think its a great mascara :)

This lip gloss is a very nice neutral shade (not the pink colour in the bottle, but the swatch colour at the top), its called Iced Mocha. I've used this is many of my looks, but its definitely a great colour for day or night. It goes on creamy, not sticky and has a great smell, almost like berries! he he
